The Halifax Hepers

The Halifax Helpers is the Nova Scotian Chapter of YouthInspirED. THH was founded in 2020, at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, to provide Nova Scotian youth with at-home learning support.  Once THH's services opened the large demand prompted the executive team to turn their temporary solution into a permanent fixture.  Now, 5 years later, THH works with students across the province. THH offers 5 services for k-12 students and their parents including EAL tutoring, academic tutoring, a laptop lending program, an EAL conversation group and a parent math tutoring program. These programs specifically work to target rural, low income and immigrant communities.

 

The success of THH is what sparked the idea for YouthInspirED. If youth in Nova Scotia could create a program that provided successful educational support to those around them, why couldn't other Canadian youth do the same?
